Our second night together\r\nIn not too many years\r\nOur love, so long enduring,\r\nSo chaste and pure unless you count\r\nThe thousand or so lascivious thoughts\r\nCoursing through my mind:\r\nO! to wake up more entangled \r\nThan entranced!  But a treasure\r\nSuch as ours is not so lightly\r\nChanged, and what pure bliss\r\nTo wake to coffee, to walk, to dream,\r\nTo reminisce of all those times\r\nWhen we stumbled, fell,\r\nGave our hearts for breaking,\r\nTortured our minds with questing,\r\nLaughed with sorrow, cried with joy,\r\nAnd we were here, each other,\r\nFor each other, loving each other, \r\nOffering our arms in hugs\r\nThat say it\u2019s okay that we\r\nDon\u2019t always understand.\r\nYou, so tolerant of my mistakes,\r\nMust see in me something like\r\nThe wisdom, beauty, courage that I see\r\nIn you for each of one thousand five hundred\r\nDays and two nights.\r\nCan I -- dare I try? -- to fill a part of\r\nThe \u201cIf I\u2019m so wonderful...\u201d empty\r\nSpaces over which you give lament?\r\nDare I say what you might not believe,\r\nThat you are still -- have always been -- \r\nMy picture of not quite perfection?\r\nThere still aren\u2019t words, even in\r\nThis \u201cPrecise, Extra-Fine\u201d pen to\r\nSay what I have tried to know\r\nFor fourteen hundred ninety eight\r\nOf fifteen hundred nights.\r\nIn my dreams, I finally work it out\r\nOn a porch, in an old rocker,\r\nBy your side in the twilight --\r\nBut by then I have no empty space,\r\nAnd it need not be said.\r\n\r\n<\/pre>\n
